East meets West
Finally, a weekend with nice enough weather and time to ride both days. I had thought of trying to get in on the Cycle for Sight (140 km Downsview to Collingwood) at the last minute. Our visually handicapped neighbours, Jason and Amy, were both participating with their respective pilots and tandem bikes . It would have been great to see them accomplishing this ride. Cycling is a new experience for both of them and after Angus’s Bicycle Boot Camp, they both rode the 70 km route from Alliston to Collingwood. Angus and Jason had a major breakdown with broken spokes and derailer at the 35 km mark but were eventually fixed up and made it to the finish line.Well done!
But I digress….. instead of Collingwood, I spent the weekend doing local rides with the BCC. Saturday was a trip out to Whitevale. Head winds again (what’s up with THAT anyway!) but I managed to maintain a 29.1 kmph average until we got back into city traffic on our way home. It was a good group and the other gal in our pelathon was a machine!
Sunday’s ride was westward bound with a return to Kleinberg. This time I opted for the short route (104 km) instead of the long route from last weekend (155 km). While I had spent most of the way out at the back of the pelathon, on the return down Elgin Mills Parkway I was pulling the group at 38 kmph without even feeling like it was work. The homeward turn onto Leslie produced our first tail wind of the day and we flew the rest of the way home.
The forecast is looking good for lots of road time this week. Enjoy!
